Bloc Smart Africa leads $1m round in South africa’s township Internet service provider

BLOC SA led the $1M pre-series A round, catalysing additional capital from Connectivity Capital, Atreyu Investments and a European Family Office together with existing investors who made follow-on investments. The proceeds of the funding will go toward scaling operations to increase presence in the existing markets and expand into new communities. TooMuchWifi is said to bridge the connectivity gap by bringing fast, uncapped and affordable fibre-backed Internet to under-serviced, densely populated areas of South Africa, like townships.

BLOC Smart Africa invests $360k in agritech start-up Afrikamart

West African agritech start-up Afrikamart has just announced the closing of a $850,000 seed round of financing from leading venture capital groups, including the BLOC Smart Africa fund managed by Bamboo Capital Partners, Orange Ventures, Launch Africa and Teranga Capital. The proceeds from the financing is said to allow the company to ramp-up its purchases from smallholder farmers across the country. Also, it allows for more efficient logistics management and last mile delivery of 14 fresh types of vegetables directly to street vendors and small retailers, restaurants and hotels in Dakar and Mbour, both in Senegal.

The round saw participation from several regional angel investors, including Maha Taibah. The female-led startup, founded in 2018 by Ayat Toufeeq, Amina Grimen, and Marriam Mossall, offers its customers eco-conscious beauty products. The holiday home management company bnbme has entered an MoU with Marriott Bonvoy, whereby users of the latter’s brand program can access the homes managed by bnbme in the UAE and India. This agreement will allow guests to also earn Bonvoy points, as well as make payment through accumulated points.
“While this partnership will allow bnbme to showcase its set of properties to a different platform or travellers, it also credits our processes to be trusted by a brand such as Marriott,” said Vinayak Mahtani, CEO of bnbme holiday homes.
