Bio
JEAN-NOEL ODIER
I am the founder of Mavericks, where I work with founders and investors as a strategic advisor, fractional CFO, and transaction partner across the GCC and Africa.
Over the past 20+ years, I have operated at the intersection of capital, strategy, and execution — as a venture capitalist, private equity investor, CFO, and entrepreneur. I have held senior roles across four investment firms and supported dozens of companies as a director, co-founder, board member, or advisor.
I started my career at US Trust (Charles Schwab), managing over $500 million in venture investments in technology and life sciences, with multiple successful exits. I later co-founded Xytis Pharmaceuticals, where as CFO I led key acquisitions and helped raise $25 million in venture funding.
After leadership roles at BNP Paribas, PCG Asset Management, a US private equity advisor ($15B AUA) and a privately-held company with operations in India, Middle East and Africa, I built and led the private equity platform at Gulf Islamic Investments in the UAE before launching Mavericks in 2016.
Through Mavericks, I have advised and operated across more than 20 ventures, including serving as Senior Operating Partner at Bamboo Capital Partners (Africa-focused VC), fractional CFO and board advisor to bnbme, a hospitality tech operator, and advisor to Digital Africa, an early-stage venture capital investment firm. My work focuses on helping businesses structure, scale, and execute — from financial strategy to transactions.
I also lecture in Entrepreneurship and Finance at TSIBA Business School in Cape Town, a reputable non-profit instition focused on talented and ambitious students from underserved communities.
I hold an MS from Stanford GSB, an MA in International Relations from the Graduate Institute in Geneva, and a degree in Political Sciences. I am a former CFA Charterholder and speak English, French, and Arabic. I am also the author of Beast of the East, a crime novel.
